For a long time Google’s unofficial motto was ‘don’t be evil’, codifying how the firm wanted to appear to both employees and the general public.
However, this much-mythologised slogan has now lost prominence on the internet giant’s code of conduct.
An older version of Google’s code of conduct states: “Don’t be evil….It’s about providing our users unbiased access to information, focusing on their needs and giving them the best products and services that we can. But it’s also about doing the right thing more generally – following the law, acting honourably, and treating co-workers with courtesy and respect.”
